  1. Your photo should look like you
According to LinkedIn just having a picture makes your profile 14 times more likely to be viewed by others – and it is after all the key element of your presence on this platform.
  2. Choose a high resolution photo
If a photo looks blurry when uploaded, choose another. The maximum photo size on LinkedIn is 8MB.
  3. 60% of the frame should be your face
Crop your picture from the top of your shoulders to just above your head so that your face fills the frame.
  4. No group photos
Your profile picture space should be reserved for you. This helps others to identify you and connect with you.
  5. Snap the picture with help
If possible, avoid taking a selfie and ask someone to take your photo for you.
  6. Scrutinise your expressions
Smiling makes you more approachable – and according to LinkedIn in a study of 800 profiles, people view you as more likable, competent and influential if you smile in your picture.
  7. Check your background
Choose a simple background that won’t distract from your face.
  8. Dress up
Wear what you would wear to work in your profile picture.
  9. Choose natural light
Take your photo outside on an overcast day or in a slightly shady area. Avoid standing with your back to a window.
  10. Filters
LinkedIn does offer filters, but reign it in to leave yourself recognisable.
