Time management is the way we organise and distribute our time between tasks to maximise productivity. It is a skill that every individual will need to develop.

The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one.

  • Track your time
    Use a time tracker to keep track of time spent on tasks. You will be able to see if you simply need to better manage your time or if you’ve got too much on your plate. Time Tracking tools to try: MyHours, Toggle or Clockify.
  • Create a task list or daily plan
    Draw up a to-do list with all your tasks. Add the due date and assign a level of importance and urgency to each. Set yourself up for success by scheduling low-priority tasks for Fridays and other low-energy times.
  • Stay focused
    Avoid distractions like checking and responding to your email as it appears in your inbox. Rather block time in your schedule to read and respond to any emails. This includes checking notifications on your phone.

To do two things at once is to do neither.

  • Learn to delegate
    Your skills may sometimes be needed more on another task or project, delegate what you can to colleagues and move onto the more urgent tasks.
